Wolfratshausen – The management of WEBER Schraubautomaten GmbH is extremely satisfied with how the company performed during MOTEK 2017, which finished at the end of last week: We impressed visitors to our stand with the area of application of our automated hand screwdriver and the fixtured screwdriving technology in the field of E-mobility. We offer the screwdriving technology today for the technology of tomorrow. Our customers and many interested parties were truly electrified by the innumerable options which we offer with our insulated screwdriving spindle in the high voltage area“, says Karl Bujnowski, CEO of WEBER.
WEBER at MOTEK: “Visitors were electrified.”
Battery block of the BMW i3 as an application example
During the trade show in Stuttgart, WEBER demonstrated how maximum occupational safety and health protection can be achieved; for example, with screw connections of battery packs for electrically driven vehicles. With its high volt spindle concept, WEBER has made it possible to avoid creepages and clearances in the given voltage. The spindles made of ceramic and plastic materials offer double insulation on tools and workpieces – hazardous or life-threatening contact with live parts are thus avoided. WEBER demonstrated these screwdriving processes on the show stand with four functional screwdriving machines which assemble a battery block for a BMW i3.
Lightweight construction as a challenge of E-mobility
Besides occupational safety during the assembly of live components, the increasing light construction in the car body and automobile construction industry plays an important role. In addition to the high-voltage spindle concept, WEBER serves its customers who must compensate the weight of battery technology with new materials and processes with innovative solutions in screwdriving automation. During MOTEK, the company presented two connection processes which are explicitly for the assembly of electrically-powered vehicles: The TSS (thermal bonding) spindle – a setting system for the sandwich structure of honeycomb sheets – as well as the flow-drilling screws in hybrid structures through direct screw connections. Both processes have been specifically adapted to light construction.
Campaign “Future of Electrical Movement”
“The topic of E-mobility belongs to the future. We can already offer our customers optimum screwdriving technology for this today“, says Bugnowski. And one more thing: “We have already developed concrete project outlines from the initial inquiries and discussions at the trade show stand, which we will implement with our clients in the next few months”. WEBER Schraubautomaten GmbH has been among the market and technological leaders in the field of automatic screwdriving systems for more than 60 years. The company based in Wolfratshauser has expanded its portfolio of screwdriving applications with the competency field of e-mobility, and it is expanding its portfolio of screwdriving applications and is focusing on future-oriented technologies. To this end, a campaign entitled the “Electric Motion is the Way of the Future” has arisen in the last few weeks which is designed to convince potential users of the high level of expertise of WEBER’s engineers in this segment. Finishing line for the “Sonnenwagen” [Sun Chariot]
WEBER has been assisting “Team Sonnenwagen Aachen” with the development of an innovative solar car for a few months. The “Sonnenwagen” started the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and – after driving 3,022 kilometers across Australia – successfully reached its destination on October 15.
